Where in Sweden have you been hunting?

Hi Gbg1, my first time hunting in Sweden was at a place called Kisa where I shot my first wild boar, in fact I actually shot two that night, both young about 30kg and 40kg. My second trip was to an area close to Karlskrona, I didn't get anything this time but seen and heard the pigs, my friend Jon Anders shot his first about 50kg.

I'm hoping to arrange another trip to Sweden this year :-) fingers crossed!

Welcome!!! This is definitely a good site. I am American (now a Swede as well) and love it here. Similar to my home back in Michigan, USA. Lots of good trout fishing and bird hunting. Have you hunted much in Norway? How does it work there? For me it was quite different coming here with the private land everyone (not to say there is no private land in USA, but hunting is a bit more open to everyone and we have LOTS of birds). Hope you have a great time here. I guess you moved here for "love" as I did.

In Norway I hunt mostly roe deer and every year I am a member of the moose hunting team in my terrain.

 

Most of the land in Norway is owned by the government so you just have to join your local hunting club and buy a season or day ticket for what you want to hunt on their land, so it's a pretty simple and easy system - though as it's public land it can be frustrating at times with dog walkers etc. walking through the forest whilst your sitting at your post

 

My wife is Norwegian and we met at Uni in the UK so I followed her over after.

Thanks for checking out the blog, it's as amateur as you can get, but with work and family commitments taking up so much of my time it's good enough for me.

I haven't shot a goose in over 15 years, would be great to give it a go again some time. If I'm ever heading over in your neck of the woods I'll drop you a message.

Well, welcome to the forum, nice to practice the english writing! Newcastle would do even if it's slightly on the wrong side of Hadrianus wall...  I believe I was a scot in a previous life!   Having bred quite a few English springers and also shown some, in the UK as well, actually some years ago I managed to win the shooting magazine trophy at Crufts, showing a springer in beaters class. Have had some great time participating as a beater in a few roughshoots down south in Dorset/New Forest area so I actually seen muntjacks... Strange looking animals!

 

Love your dachs, as they should be, black and tan and with a smooth coat, quite the opposit from what I've seen in the UK... Visited a dachs breeder in north Yorkshire who had a pack of 20 longhaired, all of the f****ing ugly!

Congrats on your past success with your springers, a great achievement.

I'm hoping my Dachs calms down a bit over the coming months, he's having a bit of a crazy phase at the moment but fingers crossed he will come out of it. He's very interested in roe deer though which is the main thing, so hoping he will improve further prior to the Autumn.

Regarding the muntjac, they are crazy little things. I went on a cull weekend having never seen one previous and got 9! They're breeding like rabbits down in the south of England and there have been a few recent sitings in the North East as well, very twitchy little things and just seemed to appear from nowhere, good fun though.
